What is Mi Voz?
Mi Voz is a Leadership Development and community engagement program dedicated to making positive changes in mobile home parks and the North College corridor by utilizing community strengths to create community solutions. Mi voz is working with the following resident-led projects
Northern Colorado Mobile Home Collective
Through its community-led model, Mi Voz has continued to advance solutions that are both practical and culturally grounded. To drive systems-level change within Mobile Home Park communities, residents formed a collective that elevates and unifies their shared voice. We are excited for what the coming years will bring as this neighborhood leadership team continues to guide efforts that reflect the community’s priorities and develop advocacy strategies to address the health disparities that most impact Mobile Home Park residents.
Mi Voz Leadership Development
Mi Voz Leadership program is designed to address essential issues that have a direct impact on the daily lives of mobile home residents. The primary focus areas include initiatives and educational efforts that empower community members and contribute to their overall well-being.
It is important to acknowledge that mobile home parks are a source of affordable housing for millions across the US. Just in Larimer County there are forty-two mobile home communities. Through the Mi Voz program, residents have acquired and developed leadership skills to better address a variety of health disparities in their own communities.
One of the most recent achievements of Mi Voz is the creation of the Northern Colorado Mobile Home Collective to obtain unified representation across multiple sectors and contribute to policy development for their communities.
Building Stronger Communities Together
Through civic engagement, community problem‑solving, and public speaking, residents are becoming active participants in local decision‑making and gaining the confidence to contribute meaningfully to community life. To support this growth, residents have established advisory boards that allow them to identify issues, discuss solutions, and organize their efforts in a more structured and effective way.
- Water Quality and Safety Education: The program provides education and resources to ensure residents understand the importance of water safety and the steps necessary to maintain water quality in their communities. A multi-sector coalition meets throughout the year.
- Construction and Development Projects with Community Impact Advisory Board: Residents are provided with current information and training related to construction and development initiatives that may affect their neighborhoods, ensuring they remain informed and actively involved. Examples include the 1636 N. College project for the creation of a community hub and the Southeast Community Center, both of which have seen significant resident participation.
- Education for Safe Neighborhoods and Communities: The program offers educational opportunities aimed at promoting safety and security within neighborhoods, fostering an environment where residents can thrive.
- Food Security Education: Participants gain knowledge about food security, learning how to ensure access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food for all members of the community.
In addition, Mi Voz enhances participants’ experiences by inviting representatives from the public and nonprofit sectors to share current information on policies, programs, and developments affecting the community. Participants may also be invited to serve on municipal committees, working groups, or focus groups, enabling them to become active voices in strengthening and improving their communities.
