English as a Second Language (ESL)

The Family Center’s ESL classes teach important language skills to help families thrive in the Fort Collins community. Each class meets twice weekly for 16 weeks. The Family Center uses the Intercambio ESL Curriculum because it is:

Group or Individual Based

Parenting Classes

In collaboration with Lutheran Family Services, The Family Center offers Nurturing Families classes. These are free 12 week classes and included curriculum based childcare. They are offered separately in both Spanish and English.

Computer Classes

The Family Center partners with the Poudre River Public Library to offer free computer classes in both Spanish and English. These classes offer basic to intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and Publisher. They also focus on navigating the Internet, e-mail and social media. These vary from a one-time class to a full 6-week series. Classes operate throughout the year based on community need.

Language Exchange

The Language Exchange is an opportunity for English and Spanish speaking folks to get together and practice the other language with native speakers. The exchange is led by a facilitator and the topics are directed by participant interest.

Citizenship Classes

The Poudre River Public Library offers free citizenship classes at The Family Center/La Familia in order to help people prepare to take and pass the citizenship exam. The classes are specific to those who are eligible to apply for citizenship. The series of 6 classes is taught in English and therefore is recommended for students with an English level of 4 or higher.
